Herghelia K-12 School called also Liceul
Teoretic Dr. Lind:
Introduction
Herghelia K-12 School (Herghelia School) was established in 2000 and is situated just a few kilometers from the Herghelia Lifestyle Center and half hour away from the town of Târgu-Mureș whose population is predominantly Hungarian. Consequently our school is bilingual. It is the only Romanian-Hungarian Adventist School in Romania. This is an important service, as we aim to cater to the needs of the Hungarian-speaking minority in Romania. Moreover, we are one of only five Seventh Day Adventist schools in the Romanian Conference of this kind (K-12). We have a total of 150 students taught by 34 faculty members. As the only Christian school in the surrounding villages, it has the unique privilege to educate students from all the various protestant and neo-protestant churches (Baptist, Pentecostal, Hungarian Reformed Church and Orthodox)! This is a great opportunity for the Adventist teachers to witness to all these students and, indirectly, to their parents.
The Mission of Herghelia School is to promote the balanced development of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual abilities in the pattern of Christ in our students.
Herghelia School has a unique identity – HEALTH - with a strong focus on Medical Missionary Ministry!
Students and teachers are involved in running Children Health Expos in public schools all over Romania. Through the Health Expos our students have shared their knowledge and principles of healthy lifestyle change using the NEW START health concept (the 8 health principles – Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sunlight, Temperance, Air, Rest, and Trust in God).
All these students were very impressed by our students’ presentations and activities in the Health Expos and decided to make their own lifestyle changes. Their teachers were also impressed to make lifestyle changes and said that we are using the most advanced teaching methods they have seen yet! Praise the Lord!
Urgent Request for Support:
Education of our children at an early age about God and man’s loss of His health principles, is something very essential and fundamental for all, and something that Satan unceasingly tries to interfere with. We ask you to partner with us in our mission for Christian education, and help this school become an example to the rest of the Adventist, as well as to the non-Adventist schools. It is not an easy road! God will bless you!
In light of these challenges, specifically, we seek funding for these critical needs and expenses:
Re-accreditation tax: $15,000.00. It is mandatory in Romania.
Firewood Purchase and gas for heating buildings: $36,255.00
Diesel fuel, insurance, maintenance and repairs for student transportation vehicles $24,900/year
Buy a larger van for transporting the students from surrounding villages $19,500.
Finishing building the teaching Diet and Nutrition School Kitchen: $11,000.00
We prayerfully, hopefully and kindly ask that you help us reach these goals by praying likewise and including our school in your tax-deductible-gifting. I’m sure you would agree that every euro/dollar spent for this kind of education is priceless because of its great return into eternity!

Additional Information
Community Engagement and School Values:
Beyond health initiatives, our students regularly visit local SDA churches, presenting health principles through song, poetry, and instrumental music during church services. These presentations have inspired church members to adopt healthier lifestyles, reinforcing our commitment to holistic education. The members were so impressed by the students’ presentations that they decided to make lifestyle changes themselves.
All but two of the teachers at our institution are Seventh-day Adventists, enabling us to integrate and pass on the values of the Adventist Church throughout the school. As an expression of our desire to implement the Adventist Philosophy of Education to the highest standards, we aim to become AAA (Adventist Accreditation Association)-accredited. We are collaborating with the Church at all levels. Our school enjoys a close collaboration with other Adventist schools in the Romanian Union.
One parent said: “I am thrilled to say that we have our own children in this unique school, with great teachers who emphasize values such as temperance and health (e.g., the 8 health principles of NEW START). No public schools here in this country teach about God, and many people—even among Seventh-day Adventists—don’t fully understand how to teach about the dangers of intemperance in areas like internet/media use, food choices, substance abuse, etc. We truly resonate with the biblical passage that says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6), which highlights the importance of teaching these vital principles.”
The school’s approach is holistic, and we believe it is a life-changing experience. For example, in our Health Expos, we believe the children, by their example, will win over the parents to healthier lifestyle choices—whether SDA or not. Another example was Dr. Eddie Ramirez’s visit to our school in November 2024, where our students were extremely attentive and perceptive to his lectures, demonstrating the quality of education they receive. We are also focusing on emotional intelligence within the school’s curriculum, helping students to develop the necessary skills to succeed in both their personal and professional lives.
Current Challenges and Needs:
Romania is currently facing an extremely worrying situation regarding the use of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and pornography in schools. We are happy to say that our school has not allowed or recorded any incidents in these matters; a fact also noted by the inspectors who have crossed our threshold over the years. As a school, whose vision and mission is to educate for healthy living, we make sure that our students understand the harmfulness of these addictions that destroy so many lives! This is done through the various presentations by specialists, health classes, and Health Expos as mentioned.
Despite our success in community outreach and education, we face significant financial challenges. Herghelia School is considered a private school in Romania, even though it is accredited, the government subsidizes just a portion of our financial needs. It also relies on tuition paid by parents and modest funding from the local conference. However, these funds are insufficient to cover the school’s operational costs. Additionally, the financial status of the people living in the villages is much lower than those living in the cities. In the villages it is common for just one member of the family to be able to work.
One urgent financial need of the school is to cover the high cost of heating the buildings in the cold season. We have just been able to purchase only one load of wood but much more is needed to get the school through the coming colder months. This is a critical expenditure, and we are urgently seeking support.
Salaries and Staff Support:
Romania has the highest inflation rate in the European Union. We also face a pressing issue regarding teacher salaries. Since January 2024, the Romanian government imposed a 7% salary increase across the country, and also, an increase of almost 50% to the salaries of public school teachers - further exacerbating the issue. Due to financial constraints, we haven’t been able to implement this increase for our teachers, but we pray ardently for God to send us the necessary funds to increase our wonderful teachers’ salaries, improve retention and morale, ensuring the continued high quality of education. To do this, we need funds! To retain and motivate our dedicated staff, it is imperative that we raise their salaries, which would require additional funding. We continue to heavily promote Herghelia School as a safe and supportive place for students, which we hope to help increase enrollment and diversify funding sources. We want to accentuate our students’ medical missionary involvement through outreach, training and various other projects that require funding.
We believe that Herghelia School is and can become a greater light among Adventist schools in Romania. It is undoubtedly unique among public schools and can be an inspiration to others.
Recent Improvements and Ongoing Efforts:
Because many of our students commute from the surrounding villages and also from the town of Târgu Mureș, we are compelled to provide transportation for them. However, this adds an additional financial burden on the school because 1) many of the families don’t own a car, 2) streets are narrow and unkept, leading to frequently being damaged and needing costly repairs/maintenance. For example, there was an accident involving our transportation staff and accompanying students on a wet road. In a blind curve, an oncoming car cut into our driver’s lane causing him to brake forcefully and ultimately to slide into a ditch. The van is beyond repair but, by God’s grace, no one was injured! However, we are now still one van short for our transportation needs, which now also needs to be urgently replaced (school buses and/or vans are not provided by the government nor any assistance for this basic need).
Conclusion:
Thank you in advance for your support! We are determined to continue providing quality education, health services, and spiritual development to our students and the wider community. Every effort is helping our school achieve its mission to become a bigger and brighter beacon of light, not only for our students and the Transylvanian region but, by extension, for the whole world beyond!
Please forward our plea to others that may have in their hearts this ministry of education, health and the future of our youth!
May God perpetually bless you and yours with all His best!
